Merino wool is fast becoming the standard for a lightweight high performance base layer and the Black Ovis merino zip T base layer shirt sets the standard for soft, warm and comfortable at a price that agrees with your wallet. No longer does a thermo-regulating base layer need to be super thick and bulky. Using 100% New Zealand Merino wool in the 190 gram weight (lightweight) it’s still surprisingly durable. From sitting in a cold Wisconsin tree-stand to moving quickly along a Montana ridgeline in pursuit of a trophy elk, the natural wicking properties of the merino will keep you warm and dry. Plus the added length of the shirt ensures it won’t come untucked throughout your hunt as you bend, climb, stretch and crawl to get that perfect shot. A generous 9″ zipper for cooling off add to the features. This base layer has been tested in situations from spot and stalk hunts, cold spring trail runs, summer scouting trips and winter tree stand hunts from Canada to Illinois. Inside and out it stands up and performs as any gear should. |
Anybody use BlackOrvis baselayer? How does it match up to other top brands?
Brian,
These are brand new so it may take some time for others to chime in, but a few of us at the office were able to get our hands on some early and they are legit! There’s no doubt the 100% merino works just as well as other top brands. The look and soft feel is as good as any other.
IF there is anything different in the BlackOvis merino compared to an Icebreaker, First Lite, or similar, it’s that the knit may not be as tight. That may or may not be an issue long term after several washes.
Long story short, I believe these are very comparable to anything else out on the market but 1/3-1/2 the price. I love my set and would recommend them to anyone!
Thanks! I bought a set and I’m impressed.
I am looking forward to more reviews on the boxer briefs. But for the price, I might have to just try them out. I was debating between the FL and Sitka merino boxers, but these are now on my list as well.
Joe, for sure try them! And for the price, it’s hard to turn down. We are starting to get low on inventory though so I’d Pull the Trigger soon. Once we sell out, we won’t have our new shipment until mid summer.
These are actually made int he same factories where First Lite used to produce theirs!
