Curious how the C4E Mid Mountain Vest differs from the Element vest? Is it it intended for warmer or cooler temps than the Element?

I believe this is the lighter version of the vest kendall has been hinting at. Getting me a vest today!

OK, here’s the lowdown on the Mid Mountain Vest.
fallout23 is correct, it is lighter. I know the Core4 guys are doing a redesign to their site to add in the new items for this year and we wanted to wait until it was done but I’m anxious to get the Mid-Mountain vest out to you guys. It’s lighter for sure than the Element vest. It’s not windproof, not waterproof. It’s a performance vest built of a medium-to-heavy weight poly material that has a fleece style backing with a soft smooth exterior. The purpose of this vest is for early season hunting when you don’t really need something heavy like the Element Vest but you want to add a little insulation, warmth and density to your set up.
At first I was like, “huh?”, but after trying it on and wearing it (around the office is all….yet) I was more and more stoked to own this vest and use it in the mountains this fall. I might be wrong, but I think I’ll wear it more than the Element vest cause even when it’s cold out, it’ll be a good layer piece without bulk – and that is the key – LOW BULK on this vest.
The cut is good with standard sizing. I know that there aren’t many Med and Larges (I guess there was an order building error so they are trying to make more of those sizes). It definitely does not replace the Element, but for the active hunter I think it’s better because it’s lighter in weight and will breath super well yet keep the core warm as you’re on the move.
I hope you guys agree, those that give it a try.

Thanks fallout23 and Kendall for the details. A lighter weight layering vest is what I was hoping for. With spot and stalk this sounds great. Layer it under the element jacket for chilly glassing on the hillsides, lose the element jacket for the moderate activity, and lose both jacket and vest for a tough climb. Now all I have to do is not miss it when it comes up. Thanks again.

I got the Element Vest. It’s very nice, which is to be expected since it is really just the Element Jacket without the sleeves. Since it doesn’t have sleeves, I am able to layer it under the regular element jacket without too much bulk.
I doubt I will be getting this one, but if I didn’t have the Element Vest, I would likely jump on it, assuming its price is closer to the price of the Assault shirt.

Any chance for C4E assault shirt in medium of the mm camo? Every time they come up there are no mediums in this pattern. Hoping to get one before my trip to Canada in 3 weeks.

Seth – I keep being told 2nd week of Aug. I sure hope that is accurate cause I want a set for the archery season opener in 24 days (who’s counting?). I saw a set that came for two guys headed to Northwest Territories on a sheep hunt to test, beat up, etc. and Mark put it on and got in the shower here in the office for a good 10 minutes and was perfectly dry. Because of the brushed exterior it did hold a little moisture in the exterior but that seemed to dry out pretty quick. Final weight was 16 oz. for the jacket, 15 oz for the pant on size XL. Quiet, waterproof, nice features. waterproof YKK zippers, pack up nicely into the pocket for easy storage…yep, gotta have a set.
Is that the type of news/update you wanted?

Did I read somewhere that Core4 was working on some lightweight gloves??

Yes. They are the Assault glove. I saw the prototype, wore it around the mountain one morning. Same thickness as the Assault shirt/beanie with a SUPER grippy palm. May be a bit much for Aug, but late Sept early Oct. I think they will be the ticket. Not sure on when we or they will get them in.

Jeff – If you’re a Large Element Jacket, and it fits you well, while the Medium Element Vest does not, go with the Large Mid Mountain Vest. I’m a XL Element Jacket, Large Element Vest because I like the vest a little more snug/form fitting. So I went with the Large Mid-Mountain. However, the XL fits comfortable and nice, but not form fitting like I prefer. Does that help any?
