Description:
Using a nice wood inset and a shiny stainless steel colored blade the SOG Fielder has all the looks and a very nice feel in your hand. The blade action is smooth and seamless using the thumb stud for quick opening and the locking mechanism is solid.
Wood insets add to a comfortable feel that is worthy of the mountains but will also be right at home as an every day carry knife, in part thanks to a good sized pocket clip. Using a proven liner lock system provides reliability as well as an ambidextrous opening of the Fielder’s capable blade. The Fielder is an eye catcher but will go easy on your wallet.

Kendall, as a bow-hunter yourself, do you feel the TBR feature is an actual advantage (shooting from a treestand, etc) or mostly just marketing and hype? I got super stoked when I saw the rx-1000 show up here, but hesitating on the whether I should go for the tbr version. Thanks for the input.

Slinger – man, bringing out the tough questions on a Friday night! I must confess the RX-1000 with TBR that I own is the first rangefinder I have purchased and I bought it from the Leupold rep two years ago. My buddy who got me into archery insisted I needed something with angle compensation. With that said, here are two things in reply to your sincere question:
1. Like most guys while out hunting, I’ve pretty much range found anything and everything I could whether in a tree stand or on the ground. Not so much out of need, but sometimes just to keep myself alert and busy, guessing ranges, etc. It’s not that often that I range something under 50 yards and see a difference between the standard distance and the distance with the TBR (it gives you both when you have the TBR). That said, shooting at Bowcast at the Bird 3D shoot I had multiple shots that were 1-5 yards difference and having the TBR was critical. But I have to ask myself – are those the types of shots I’ve been presented with in hunting or will be presented with given where I love to hunt? The answer – no, those shots are expressly difficult and long (up to 110 yards), set up to test my limits and those of my gear. However, they did show a valid need for TBR which is not marketing hype for sure.
2. Just yesterday a good buddy came by Camofire HQ to purchase the RX-1000. He’s a Muzzy hunter but also does a bit of archery and some rifle. He bought a redfield a month ago but it went missing from his truck last week. In the parking lot I pulled out my RX-1000 with TBR and he with his shiny new RX-1000 and we were range finding everything in sight. Tops of buildings near and far, fences, trees, etc. On every object we range found, not a single one was there a difference between the range and range with TBR. Even the top of the two story building 35 yards away was 35 yards for both range finders, as well as the top of the church steeple (it’s Utah, churches are everywhere) 450 yards away. It had me thinking if TBR is really that big of a deal. For my buddy Bill, he didn’t seemed bothered at all, even considering longer range rifle shots.
My conclusion and thought are that TBR is awesome to have and definitely NOT marketing hype, but more times that not it’s more like having a security blanket that keeps me comfortable while out hunting. As a bowhunter, all things being equal knowing what I know now, if I needed a rangefinder and didn’t have the hook up for the TBR model I’d have a very hard time rationalizing the extra $100+ for it
The one thing is for sure, the small size of the Leupold RX1000 is something I flat out love and would have a hard time going bigger with another model or brand.
I hope this epic long reply helps. I want to be honest as a fellow hunter, not just as a guy trying to sell stuff on the interweb.

I got my RX yesterday, it’s exactly what I was looking for in size for the treestand. I’ve used the Leupold RX-III for about three years with TBR. Leupold’s TBR bow mode only works out to 60 yards and they divide the bow speed into 3 categories. If your bow speed is approaching 290-300 fps, the most range change I’ve seen is one yard at 50+. so the RX-III for me is going in the rifle pack and the 1000 is headed to the stand this fall. I like the red readout of the 1000, it’s easy on the eye in the dusk/ dawn and it will be sometimes faint in direct sunlight. I like the TBR mode, but don’t need it for realistic hunting shots in the stand. I agree with Kendall, it’s a great tool for 3-D shoots.

I should have just left the question to Greg. His reply is easy on the eye as well, haha!

Thanks for the replies guys! Since I’m not huge into the 3D stuff, and practice should be able to account for any ‘real life’ scenarios, I’ll just have to keep an eye on CF today and grab one before they sell out.

Thanks, Kendall. You’ve a good chance to field test much more than most of us have, so we look to your posts for feedback and thoughts.
Slinger – you won’t regret the buy, it’s a great tool for the quality and features.

Kendall, why are tops listed as the extra item after the bottoms ran? I would like a couple of “sets” of matching tops and bottoms in large? Secondly, I want a pair of the boots up now, and need the wide size, but like last time there are not any wide sizes in any of the sizes? I need a 11.5 wide, help Kendall?

Jay – sorry I didn’t run the matching tops as the extra item….shoulda, woulda, coulda… I’ll run the tops this month and the pants will be the extra item when I do.
Dave – They are sold out on the wide. Watch for a boot from Rocky this week which is essentially an upgraded Broadhead.
