Description:
The SOG Battle Axe evokes its origins from medieval times, which some might consider to be the present. Whether used as a target axe, SWAT tool, universal back up, or hung above the fireplace; it is very effective. It is a modern axe that is perfect for throwing, military, camping, or just as a universal axe. The pike in the back is upswept for better target penetration when sitting around camp having an axe throwing contest.
Size and heft are balanced for optimum swing control. The handle is sculpted from heavy duty black Pakka wood and the entire solid blade is protected with SOG’s hardcased black coating. Protected with the nylon sheath, it’s perfect to pack up and take to your next hunting camp.

Anybody else find that a battle-axe sale in the week before Mother’s day…is ironic?
Hot debate. What do you think?

For 2 Cents…these are great blinds, I have the “Tom Taker” which is the same blind with a different sponsor label. Easy to carry, easy to set up by yourself, and I haven’t broken anything on mine yet. It’s been used regular for the last two seasons. The price point is great on these today, IMO, just sent one to my Dad for an early Father Day surprise.

I missed the Nikon spotting scope today, just wondering if anytime soon you will be having the Nikon angled lens spotting scope up for sale? My son is looking for one and has received a lot of excellent feed back on the Nikon Spotting Scopes.
Thanks!!!

Brandon – we only have them in straight. I myself prefer the angled as well, but am currently testing a Vortex Nomad. I think in the lightweight “working mans” category of scopes, the new Nikon Prostaff is one of the lightest scopes with good glass. The Nomad is pretty solid, but not as good in low light. We have the old Nikon Prostaff 16-48×65 coming up on Sunday for $269.99 in the straight eyepiece just in case.

Kendall, what do you think of the prostaff 16-48 vs the 20-60? Im concerned about the size difference between the two to pack them in, but do you think the extra power and objective size is worth packing in?

That’s a dilemma that I am struggling with right now. Is the extra power, weight and hit to the wallet worth it? I think it depends on your style of hunting. Up until now, I’ve not been a very patient hunter so the idea of pulling out my tripod and scope to sit down for a while hasn’t been my deal. Plus I have been hunting thick stuff, not wide open bowls and high country. So my 10×42 or 10×50 when I tote them have done the job and are easy to sit down and glass. I realize too that glassing with a scope on a tripod is much more effective than binos with elbows on your knees. That’s also why I’ve been carrying a setup of the Nikon Fieldscope ED 50 and the Vanguard AO224 that combined weigh in under 4 pounds and are relatively small in size. As well the set up is easy in easy out of the pack.
That all said, I’m “trying” to turn over a new leaf and trying to get more into sitting with a scope to glass more but for me it doesn’t really make me want to go for the biggest objective available cause the time spent glassing with a scope in my hunts is minimal to the time sitting with binos or stalking. Now I have a buddy who is a freak about lightweight this and that, but he totes a Vortex Razor 85mm scope into the high country of Colorado. I think it’s overkill, he sees the extra bulk/weight as a must to find success.
I think you have to answer the type of terrain you hunt and your style to determine if it’s worth it. For me, the extra bulk, weight and cost of the 20-60 don’t add up to more meat in the freezer based on the terrain and style of hunting I tend to do. But some guys may call me crazy….and some do. Hope some of that ramble helped.

Thanks for the reply! I think I probably will pull the trigger on the smaller prostaff this Saturday. With the 8x binocs I got today, I think 16-48 will round out my needs for the country ill be hunting for the next few years.
Speaking of vanguard tripods, any coming up anytime soon?

Kendall,
I ordered the pants yesterday and was wondering I’m a 38 pant so I went with the L will these fit ok or should I have bought the XL? My thinking was the XL would’ve been way big.
Thanks

Bill – yea, I think the XL would be better fitting. Drop Greg an email or call me or him if your order hasn’t shipped and we can swap it out if we’re not sold out of XL. I’m a 35-36 waist and the L is perfect for me but I don’t think it’d be comfy on at 38.

Kendall – I’d stay with the Large, I’m about a 38, and the Rockies are the only pants that fit me well in a Large, the XL was too much for my fit.
Bill, If you are going to layered wear, then you may want the XL, otherwise the Large should fit you well…IMO.
