Description:
APXg2 combines the best technologies available to create the finest technical hunting apparel. The Tundra L2 features extreme wind protection while providing moisture-wicking technology and scent control protection. Depending on external conditions, the TUNDRA L2 can be worn as a second layer or the only base layer. It also is a great spring or fall outer layer when a single layer tee isn’t going to cut it and a jacket is too much.
As the wind kicks up, there are key areas that have double layers for enhanced wind resistance. Anti-microbial Scent-Stop, and moisture management technology provides odor control. Dri-Power, Russell’s moisture management technology wicks moisture away from the skin. As you put on a pack, the flatlock stitching reduces bulk along seam lines so that you won’t have uncomfortable seams being pressed by a pack strap. The Tundra is as solid as they come.

This is more of a warm layer right? Not super thin like the L4 reflector stuff?

I posted a comment yesterday bragging on the Russell APXg2 gear that I wore shed hunting in New Mexico last weekend, but it says that it is “awaiting moderation”.
I posted a link to a picture of me dressed in the gear so I figured that was the hold up, no one wanted to see a picture of my ugly mug!

Sorry npaden, finally approved it.
Ryder – yes, this is a warm layer. But the cool thing about this shirt is you can wear it as a layer or as an outer thanks to the wind shear fabric. The Reflector is actually an L2 (my error last time saying it’s an L4) and this shirt is similar in that it does block some wind, but the reflector is super light weight. See npaden’s comment on the Turkey post from yesterday

Kendall, the Reflector shows on the Russell Outdoors website as being L4. Not exactly sure why the list it that way but that’s what they show. I guess because it is an outerlayer not intened to really be worn under anything else.

yea you’re probably right on that. L2, L4…whatever it is categorized as it’s a sweet piece of gear.

Yea I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with the reflector shirt when I ordered it with the L2,L4 mixup. Wasn’t really impressed with it. I think this Tundra stuff is more what I want. I’ll order it.
Thanks for the reply.

Ryder, Don’t knock the reflector shirt until you’ve tried it a few times. It isn’t going to keep you warm by any strech of the imagination, but it will keep the sun off of you and keep you cooler than just wearing a T-shirt during the summer. The zip front pocket comes in handy too.
The L2 Tundra seems to be mainly for use as a base layer to me with no pockets anywhere on the top or bottoms. It should work for keeping you warm though.

This similar to the Sitka Traverse?
I’m a pretty big fan of the APXG2. I think it’s quality gear at a huge savings over Sitka.

Jeremy – It’s not apples to apples with the Traverse. The grid fleece on the Tundra is warmer than the Traverse and the wind resistant fabric performs much differently than the Traverse. As npaden said, the downer on the Tundra is no pocket, not even a little zip chest pocket. I think Russell was pegging this as a pure layer and not as an outer, but with this and the Traverse I’ve found that I use them as my outer layer/shirt in tandem with a vest for those cooler mornings that turn into warm days with a breeze. Which seems to be most of September archery season in the mountains.
Similar? Sure. If I had to choose one, camo pattern aside? Tundra for me.

Npaden, my main complaint with the reflector is that the material is loud. Sounds like you’re walking around in raingear, only no rain protection. Keeping the sun off me is no big deal, sun doesn’t shine much here in Idaho. Haha.

Brentten – the bottoms were in the cart as the extra item. Likely didn’t see it there. (rookie mistake? – just razzin’ ya)

Hey Kendall, thanks for posting the Tundra Gear last night, I purchased 2 of the shirts and added 2 of the pants to make them complete sets. Funny thing was just yesterday afternoon, I was telling my wife that I was wanting to get a couple more of these shirts but was waiting to see if they would indeed pop up on here. Thanks again!
