Any comments on the primaloft jacket? Looking for a primaloft jacket for layering and want something thin, light, and packable. I was going to order 1 from REI but these are way cheaper.

Jason, I tried this model on in a brick and mortar store and was pleased with it. I pretty much live in my prima loft jackets. I have a Patagonia nano puff pullover, which is an AMAZING jacket for the weight (under 10 oz). Had one version or another of this for years. I’d lean more towards the patagonia or another similiar maker like montbel as your main piece (they often come up for sale from various sites, i.e.. backcountry). But, something like this Russell for the money would be a great addition on top of that for hunting. It’s always nice to have something in Camo! So, my advice, get both.

Jason – Two things I’ll add to the design of this jacket is that the top of the back and under the arm areas have smaller baffles than the rest of the jacket. This is called body mapping which allows those areas to be less insulating (these areas are usually warmer) so you can use this jacket longer and more often before over heating.
The other thing is that it uses Primaloft ONE, which is a higher quality and better warmth to weight ratio than the standard (still good) Primaloft Sport. This will also pack down very small as a jacket like this is more often than not in your pack and not on your back.

Timberhawk was sold to a new owner and they aren’t “ready” for their packs to be sold on Camofire. I’ll keep working on it.
