Hey Greg,
Is their a difference between the C4E Merino 190 Boxer previously available on camofire and the C4E Merino 50/50 blend being offered today?
Thanks,

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with the fitting of the Core4 pants. I am expecting we will see some on here soon enough, and wanted to know the proper size to order when they finnaly show up. In the sizing comments it says to measure your waiste and not to go off the common levi pants sizes. I normally wear a 32 or 34 in most common pants brands, but my waiste measures 37-38 inches?!!! Apart from the blow to my self esteem/image, with that drastic of difference, I just don’t want to order the 38′s and find out they are too big. Any advice is appreciated.

I had the same problem with C4E pants. A 34″ fit like a 28″. Going up to 38″ would have given me a lot more leg than I need.

50/50 Blend on the boxers? Is this a permanent change?

Dude – they’re $18 underwear (on sale!), I’m sure the 50/50 blend is pretty darn sweet.

I am not complaining. Just curious as to the change. Before they were the same price or cheaper and 100% Merino wool. I was just wondering if there was a benefit for the change and if it was permanent. Also curious if the rest of the base layer line will be following suit.

Brad – Yes. Great questions below. I’ll attempt to answer:
We had a number of returns last year that showed the boxers were coming apart at the seams and sometimes prematurely wearing thin. Core4 addressed this with the Merino Wool Company (fabric supplier for merino) and the factory that they use and the suggestion was to make a blended merino boxer. Apparently North Face, Patagonia and others have been doing this for a couple of years. They sent me a 1/4 zip and boxers to test last winter in order to determine if the performance of a blend was different, better, worse, etc. I backcountry ski and climb mountains in the winter and used both the 100% merino and the 50-50 blend interchangeably.
I concluded a few things which friends of mine in the Outdoor industry confirmed. As far as softness and texture, I couldn’t tell a major difference and most of the time had to check the tag to see if I was wearing blend or pure. When wet from sweat, the blend dried faster and wicked moisture as quickly as the pure merino. The other thing I noticed was that the blend held it’s shape better over time (washings, wear, pulling). So I suggested that if it’s more durable that for the boxer it’s a good move.
I thought the price would go down a bit, but the cost of merino went up this year which apparently negated any cost decrease. That said, I checked First Lite and their merino boxer runs $50 so I think still at $39.99 on Core4Element.com and $17.99 here on Camofire that it’s great performance for a very reasonable price.
That said, it’s a lot of dough to cover your junk, which some guys will dismiss and simply go with the Fruit guys. But for performance driven fabric with durability and an edge, the blend on the boxer is not a compromise but delivers performance. That’s my $.02, hope it helps you and others make a decision with more info.

Hey Rob. I bought a pair of the new c4e switchbacks and the sizing is definately true to a tape. I normally wear a 34 waist and ended up getting the 38′s. My waist measured 37″ so I got the next size up. Just enough room to tuck in a shirt. Hope this helps.
