Description:
Lightweight, durable, and comfortable are three words that fully describe the Switchback Pant. Built for warmer hunts where movement is key, the Switchback Pant is constructed of 100 % double weaved 2-way stretch polyester to breathe extremely well with a gusseted crotch to increase range of motion. They resist moisture and provide mountain-worthy durability, and the fit allows for spring-weight underlayers on those brisk mornings.
When on the final stalk, removable knee pads offer amazing comfort. Snap closure cargo pockets with added slanted vertical zip pocket on the outside allows for easy access no matter your position. Should the weather becomes almost unbearable, rollup the bottom of the pant and a convenient button closure transforms these lightweight pants to lightweight shorts. Suspender loops offer you the option of wearing or not wearing suspenders. These are great feeling pants that will keep you light on your feet, comfortable from sunrise to sundown as you are switch-backing up the trail.

It looks like I am right between sizes at 34 waist, 6′ and 195lbs. Anyone think that I should get any other size but large? Thanks

Doug – we had the Zeiss/Surefire rep in yesterday and he said he was a 34 waist and I’d guess he comes in around a buck-eighty or so). He said the Large was the meal ticket. (between you and me I’d be willing to say he’s a 35 if I put a tape on him) Go with the Large. Or heck, order both knowing you’ll send one back or sell it to a buddy.

Thanks for the reply Kendall, that was fast!! I’ll go with the large. What the tags on my jeans say and the tape are two different things with me too.

I know I should be in bed, but figured I’d hang around and watch the Switchback pant action. Glad to get you some info…and yes, like you the tape doesn’t lie but Calvin Klein has me thinking I’m a 34 when I’m really a 36, dang it!

doug, i’m 5’9 200 lbs with a 34 waist and i went with med tall. sitka’s 2007 mtn pants in 34 waist fit me perfect but i do know their same pants in 36 waist are to big. i hope this helps.

Good reply John. This is such a fickle size break. My feedback to Core4 design guys was they have to be constant on the Element and Switchback pant as well as make size breaks that are more consistent with the masses.
On the bright side, I’m in love with this pant.

kendall, that would be way cool to have both pants constant. maybe core4 will have that bugga boo worked out when the ap and max1 switchback pants hit camofire.

Kendall,
I orderd both items for today but I was wondering if I could add a Core4 Assault shirt size XL to the order as well? I sent a message through the contact email. Let me know if possible at all or my other options..
Thanks again for great gear.

Doug – They include it in your order of the pants and just ship it with. Well thats how they did it last time
with the Cpre4 – Element pants.

Kendall,
I don’t like complaining, but it seems there are hardly any camos with green in them. Why is that?
Thanks,
Scott

No worries Scott, complaints are just fine around here. You know, it’s a funny thing why there isn’t green in camo patterns. The couple that stand out are Predator and Realtree APG.
I don’t know the answer yet, but if I were to guess it’s because of two things:
1. The camo patterns are built for shelf appeal and green isn’t a “cool” color to wear if you’re a tough rugged hunter. Yes? No?
2. Since undulates see black and white, the shades of grey’s and tan’s are more easily manipulated to give the close/far/mid-range mixup along with the b/w dominated mix while still adhering to reason #1 so that it’d sell.
Could you imagine buying a camo jacket with all sorts of green tones and not getting any St. Patty Day’s jokes? Sure,I’m being a bit over the top, but I really think those 2 answers are quite likely correct. But I’d love to hear others insights on this.

I’ve got a set of the Sitka Celcius gear in mothwing, and when I’m standing out in the forest, it looks REALLY green. Maybe I just have to (ab)use it a little more to dull it up? Or the forests up here in the Okanagan are generally darker than elsewhere? Does this run of Element (Kendall) pants have the same green appearance as when Sitka used the pattern, or is it a little more muted? As it stands, I’m holding out for the AP.

It does look green since this is MM 2.0. The MM 1.0 was more gray. Hold out for AP if that’s your flavor of choice.
I was just looking at a Mossy Oak Treestand pant I have and it’s pretty green too.

Ok, funny story for you guys that are buying these. If you notice on the bag it’ll say “Kendall pant” when in fact it’s called the Switchback pant. So a number of months back (6, 8…can’t recall) I said that I wanted a pant that was lightweight similar to the Ascent but a looser cut with knee pads and better cargo pockets. While at the factory in China they were getting the Element pant and the still un-named pant (Switchback) confused so they called it the Kendall pant for reference purposes. It wasn’t until about a month ago that it was to be called the Switchback so all along the past number of months they’ve called it the Kendall pant so the factory shipped it with the name on the box and on the bag. We saw it yesterday and laughed, but then were scrambling to get new labels to cover up the “Kendall Pant” labels.
So there you have it, the reason why it says “Kendall Pant”.

A little off topic, but do you have a timeline on the camo merino shirts coming out yet?

Aaron – it’s close enough to topic. I heard not so stellar news that the camo merino was having a bit of an issue on printing. They are working hard to get them done and on a boat/airplane before end of Aug which puts them here in Utah around mid Sept. I keep pestering them for details and can see frustrated faces so I go easy on them. I’ll continue to keep updating as I get info.

Kendall, what size do you recommend for a guy 5’5″ 135, who wears a 30-30 in a Levi Jean? I also feel a bit unsure about the size since my waist is right between the S and M… Should I go small to allow a closer inseam but risk a tight waist? Or go Medium and get a comfortable waist that can be cinched up if too loose but risk a longer pant down to the ground?

Eric T – they will be long, but they were built to have extra length that could be hemmed up if need be (no zipper on bottom). Very tough call on the small/med. I’ll see if I can….wait, I think we have someone in the warehouse that is a 30″ waist. I’ll have him try them on and report back.

Thanks Kendall.. I went ahead and grabbed the small. Ive worn 28 waist jeans before and felt comfortable so I think the small range works best for me. Ps thanks for getting back to my email so quick today. Y’all do a great job of customer service

The last time the Sitka ascent pants were offered I bought an XL and they were too big in the waste and too short on length. So the other day I ordered the core 4 element pants in size Large Tall. Ha not a chance of getting those bad boys buckled. So today I’m ordering the switchback in XL tall. Maybe I’ll finally get it right. For reference I’m 6′ 3″ and weigh 240 and it’s not all in my chest like the good old days. My blue jeans are size 34 talls or 34×36. But when buying slacks sometimes I have to go up to a 38 waist. I guess different brands and types fit different. So Kendall my question is do you have any of the element pants in XL tall and if so can I send my larges back for a swap. Thanks for the help

Size question – I ordered the Element set in XL and it fits nice. I usually wear a 34, but in some cases go with a 36. Should I order the L in the switchback and pivot or the XL again? Thanks

I am in the same position. 6’0″ 170lbs. I bought the Element pant last month in a large and it is just about right, maybe could use an inch more in length. I am thinking about the medium tall in the switchback. Thoughts?

Do these size like the Ascent pant? i.e. Tight around the thigh in what would normally be one’s size?
Thanks Kendall!

Marcus – I don’t think they are tight in the thigh. I don’t have unusually large thighs though. But I think they will fit most guys well in the thigh based on the sizing chart and what would be your size.

Hey Kendall my element package and everything fit great…was going to email you but figured it would be ok to post! Going to go try some stuff out this week/weekend…
This camo even looks better in person!
Thinking I might need the assault or pivot shirt to go with it though… thanks a ton! You and your crew are awesome

Kendall, So I’m thinking I should get a size large based on what I heard, but now second guessing due to the fact that the XL element pants fit perfect. I’m 6’1″ 220lbs and jean size is 34 regular I have to go with a 36 waist in some brands though. ie: carhart or dress pants..

Sam – the XL will be H U G E on you if you’re a 36 waist. The actual measurement of the Large is 37.25 on the waist but I didn’t recommend it on the sizing chart as that cause I’m a 36 and after wearing it a few times and washing it (didn’t shrink, just sayin) it’s great.

Just threw down on a pair of these pants, including that talus belt makes it an even better deal. I’ve got the Sitka Bomber belt and this Talus looks pretty much the same so know I will have 2 good belts for hunting.
Kendall, i’ve been e-mailing with you the last few weeks about getting some merino wool stuff for my upcoming sheep hunt but haven’t heard back from you on my last 2 e-mails. Thanks bud.

Tom Jr – XL Tall is what I’d recommend, HOWEVER, put a tape on your waist since jean makers are so inconsistent and I think they make them bigger than the numbers say (so we get the added ego boost – my $02). If you’re a 40 on the tape, pull the trigger on XLT.

These pants are pretty sweet! Thanks for letting me come to the store and try them on. I usually wear a 38×36 or a 36×36 in jeans and the xlt’s fit me and were long enough. The shirt is awesome too…. I cant wait to give this gear the test in the Montana mountains next month. too bad your shipping ninjas weren’t at the store that day… I would have like to get the belt too. Hopefully this stuff is as durable as it is comfortable. If so, I think we have a winner!

Hey Ryan,
Ii picked up the Nikon 1200 range finder and i love it the only problem that i have with it is the batteries are expensive at 9.00 a piece and i seem to go through batteries every 2 weeks. I thing when i put it back in the case it hits the buttons and cause the batteries to drain. I do recommend the Nikon range finder.

Hi Kendall- I wear a 34W-32L in jeans would the large work for me? Thanks

Dan – I just had Terry here in our office try on the Large and the Med. He’s a 33-34 waist but wears 32 jeans most of the time. (Jean makers need to take note). The Large was big on him with extra room on the waist and frankly all over. The med fit but if he wanted to layer under them – no way that is happening comfortably. Put a tape on your waist Dan and go with a Large if you’re a true 34 or more waist with the tape. If you’re 33 or less, Med is your flavor.

Fairly new to the site, but like it so far. Was just wondering if there is any way to find out what items are coming up in the future? For the most part, is the only way of determining what is coming up next through the daily shooter emails and rapid fire texts? Is there any where that a person can see the next 5 to 6 items (or so) that will be coming out next?
One reason I ask is because I have recently ordered a few items, but have not held for combined shipping because I am uncertain when the next item may come out that I want to purchase. If I could see in advance a few items that were coming out, it might help me predict if I will likely be using combined shipping.
