Description:
The Element Vest was born into the Core4Element family with a task to keep the active hunters core warm while having free arm mobility. A great insulator layer that can also be worn as a standalone garment this garment is exceptionally versatile. The extremely durable, breathable, and comfortable 2-way-stretch polyester double weave allows for an excellent fit while resisting wind, water, and snow. A microfleece lining on the collar and chin guard complement the soft, brushed interior for next-to-skin comfort. Other great features include a full-length zipper, three external pockets, one internal pocket, and a drawcord hem. Designed for the active hunter when the temperature is too warm for the Element Jacket but extra insulation is needed over the Assault Shirt the Element Vest is the perfect choice for any hunting situation.

Is the vest about the same as the element jacket in thickness, minus the arms?

Greg – yes. I’ve been using this vest (a sample version of it) for the last 2 months and wearing it under the jacket. Even though it’s the same thickness of the Element Jacket, I’ve found it to be the extra warmth/protection I wanted for the cooler days.
Regarding sizing, I wear a XL jacket but sized down for the vest because I wanted a more snug fit for the vest, knowing I’d be wearing it over 1 or 2 layers (Merino 1/4 zip and the Assault) but likely under the jacket or on it’s own. I wouldn’t say that someone should or needs to size down, but if you are wearing the Element jacket and want a more snug fit, consider sizing down. If you want a more true and relaxed fit, go with your jacket size. Hope that info helps

I am not sure, but from what I have heard – it is. I know Core4 said they would have 2 vests.. 1 for cold weather and one for mid-layer kinda.. I think this is the mid-layer.

Chris – you are correct. I think Ross mentioned something about the two vests on Facebook or the C4E blog. Based on what you said, I’d say this vest is the mid-layer vest with the other being a lightweight vest. The Element Vest is intended for cooler weather, wind protection and added core warmth, but for cold weather treestand or waterfowl hunting, this vest won’t insulated like a down vest for example. The Element vest is DWR treated so it will protect from rain/snow. For cold weather active hunting (hiking, spot and stalk) the Element vest is solid and I’ve found it to be a key piece to my gear in Oct/Nov and will hopefully use it tomorrow.(more on that later) It’s very similar to the Sitka Celsius vest
The other vest you’re speaking of (I’ve seen an early sample of it) is more intended as a lightweight performance driven vest when you’re on the move in cool (not cold) to warm temps – you know like early Sept when you’re elk/deer hunting. The lighter vest isn’t windproof nor will it go very high up the neck, but it’ll give good thermal assistance without bulk or weight.
That said, Core4 should consider doing a cold weather vest (insulated like with Primaloft or down) which would be awesome right now as it was 2 degrees this morning and being a softy I opted to wait until tomorrow to chase Wapiti.
Hope this helps you Chris.

Thanks Kendall. I was hoping this was the ‘light’ one. I too hope that Core4 considers doing some cold weather gear. I love my C4E stuff (element jacket, pants, assault shirt, merino layers) but even with everything on when the temps start dipping I get some chills. I really wanted a C4E vest, but when I found out it was the same thickness and material as the Element Jacket, I decided maybe the Sitka Kelvin vest is what I was looking for.
I’d love to see C4E come out with a line that competes with the Sitka Fanatic line.

Kendall/All….
The Core4 guys mentioned to me (an Alberta Canada resident) and I hope that I am not speaking out of turn (if I am I will apologize now
) that they are working on true cold weather gear. I made inquiries earlier as my cold is probably a little different that most of yours. My last days this years were around -25c to – 30c! Unfortunately the present Core4 line does not fit that bill. I had to go with Sitka Incinerator for that and as we all know that is not cheap by any stretch!!! Anyway… I love the Core4 stuff… I have most of the line (including some duplicates to boot) now for about the cost of the Sitka Incinerator Jacket! Don’t get me wrong I love the Sitka stuff or I would not have bought it but I am also extremely happy with the Core4 products and would have absolutely no qualms about purchasing that over the Sitka if the Cold Cold weather products were offered.
Anyway….I am digressing. Core4 are apparently working on a true Cold weather line and I even offered to help test it…
no charge! I hope they are able to get it in the mix for next year and I will certainly get it as well. You can never have enough hunting cloths….at least that is what I tell myself…the wife? Not so much!
Kendall/Camofire….just wanted to say thanks for all the great service/products and to which you all a happy holidays!

Just wanted to comment on the socks currently on the site. I hunted with this sock in Canada last week and they were unbelievably warm and comfortable. I was wearing muck style boots that were roomy so they accommodated the socks well. I wore them 3 days in a row, and then pulled them out again for day 7. They didn’t drop down or move around, to my surprise. Can’t say enough about them. Would be an awesome sock for duck hunting or fishing waders too.

Kendall,
Thanks for keeping up such a great website and company! I have had my eye on those 10X42 Monarchs for some time and when I saw they would be on your website I got excited. Unfortunately, I wasn’t around a computer when the deal came up yesterday. Do you know if you will have them up again in time for Christmas? Also, do you have any in Camo?
Thanks Kendall and Happy Holidays!!!

How would this vest compare to the sitka kelvin as far as insulation and noise? Just received the kelvin and it seems a little noisy, but lightweight.
I have some other core4 stuff and realy like it. Putting together a lineup for a potential kodiak goat hunt this fall.
Thanks

Aaron – the Kelvin is definitely designed as an insulation layer and not really great as an outer layer because it’s a bit more noisy and not as durable to sticks/branches/brush. The Element Vest is DWR treated, soft and quiet and very durable. Much better as an outer vest.

My Wife got me the Core4Element vest in a Large and it’s a touch larger than I anticipated. I need the medium size and was wondering if anybody wanted to trade? I’m way past the return period. The Vest is still new in the box. Thanks!

After chasing bears last weekend (below freezing in May? Really?), I’d be very interested in seeing the C4E Elements Vest pop-up on the site today or tomorrow!

Were these vests available in size small? I am looking for a vest in the Mountain Mimicry pattern, size small. What are my chances? Anything coming up?

Colby – These are made in small, and you’re right, we’ve not had these in a while on the site. I’ll work them in before the end of next week. If you miss them, give us a call and we’ll get you one.
