Description:
Rain has no empathy for what time it is or what part of the world it is in, it doesn’t care if you are about to stalk a trophy high country mule deer or not. Rain plays a huge role in the scheme of hunting, but you have a choice, you can either run for the truck or pull on the Torrent Jacket and keep hunting. The Torrent Jacket is a lightweight, waterproof, and breathable jacket that was developed to keep you dry on all hunting adventures.
Everything was taken into consideration when designing this jacket, it all started with the best waterproof/breathable laminated microfiber brushed tricot fabric that was on the market. From there waterproof YKK zippers were added and all seams were taped to ensure no water will seep through. The exterior is treated with DWR for added protection against moisture. It is hard to keep cool while hiking in the rain so the Torrent Jacket is equipped with 11 ¼” mesh lined pit zips for added ventilation. Velcro cuffs and elastic drawstring hood and hem make it easy to secure the jacket tight around your arms, head, and waist.
When not needed the Torrent Jacket is highly compressible and can be stuffed inside one of its two zippered hand warmer pockets. The Torrent Jacket stretches with you as you power up the mountain during a torrential downfall.

Hope this is answered before they are gone or I might just chance it anyway. I have purchased their stuff before but still trying to figure out the sizing, On the rain jacket and pants I’m trying to figure out the size i need. I wear XXL T-shirt in most clothes, I purchased the XL 190 merino top and bottoms and both fit well, with the top fitting snug as suggested but not tight, the bottoms fine as I wear XL in most pants anyway, I could have gotten L and been fine but XL was good too, then I purchased the Assault Shirt in XL as it was suggested the fit would be one shirt size down to have a good fit but not tight fit, I got it in and it fits good no to tight but not loose either perfect for what I was wanting it for as either a one layer or under layer when cold, after that the switchback pant (2011) came up and I bought the XL in it as it was listed 37-40 I believe got them in and it fit little loose for XL pants compared to other XL pants I bought, I’m a 38 waist in jeans, but they fit if I had gotten large it would have probably been border line as I have a pair of mountain hardware mesa pants in L and they fit but little snug but wearable even after washing. I bought one of the Natural Gear rain suits earlier in the year at 2XL thinking on go size bigger so you can get it over your other gear, I got it in and the 2XL swallowed me so sent it back for XL and it fits great over clothing. I purchased a sitka kelvin vest earlier this year in XXL which fits fine, I have to use the waist pulls to get it to fit just right but I feel the XL would have been to snug after layering, this one perfect after layering. I also got an XXL Kuiu guide vest in the 2011 cut or first cut any smaller it would have been snug.
So with all that said here is the question is the Core 4 Element torrent gear jacket and pants is it cut so that XL is designed to go over clothing but labeled XL for size matching or is it cut so XL is designed to be just XL and I should go 2XL to go over clothing? Also I plan to get more stuff today so I’m thinking the XXL in Element stuff as that is what worked in Sitka and Kuiu outer layers but any suggestion I’m willing to listen, as I was almost expecting the C4E XL pants and tops to be tighter than what they actually were but I like the fit. Sorry for long winded post but serious about getting most of what is on the list today and just don’t want to get sizing to wrong, I was hoping for Element pants as well so hopefully it a reload extra. so any of you who have this gear and know the sizing well compared to what I have please let me know, I’m looking at the Max 1 and AP stuff hard. Thanks kn

Kyle – Sorry I haven’t been online to answer (computer crash) but you definitely do not want to get 2xl. It will be HUGE on you if the XL is your standard size. The Torrent is built to fit over your normal size by ordering the same size you wear. Hope that clears it up. And wanted to say thanks for picking up so many pieces of gear from us over the past year!

Ok one other question, Do I load up my shopping cart and purchase all at the end of the day or do I purchase each item as they come up and do combined shipping on first item, I’ve only bought multiple items here as the reload extra never bought more than one trigger item each day? but today is the day.
thanks, kn

I can answer this one. You need to buy them as they come up and do a combined shipping on the first item. After that shipping will be $1 for each additional item that you purchase.

Does the rain gear fit over the painst and jacket? I wear a Large in both.
What size would I get?

Okay, How does the Torrent compare to the Russell APXg2 Cyclone rain gear?
I have the Russell stuff and am happy with it, but if the Torrent is substantially better then I will probably buy it and sell my Cyclone set.

I have the Russell gear and have really liked it. The one benefit to the Torrent that I find is that it’s lighter weight and packs a little better than the Cyclone. I’m the wrong guy to ask, since I get a deal on my gear, but I did swap out the Cyclone for the Torrent. The Cyclone is now my back up.

Something to consider on the assault gloves. Ordered a large and x-large since I didn’t know what size I needed. Nice gloves but the cuffs are way too tight for my liking. A pain to get on and off without listening to the seams rip. Once they’re on you’re good to go but if you like to be able to take your gloves off semi-quickly without tearing them up…you’ll be out of Schlitz.

Anyone have the talus belts? I want to order a couple, I have a 36 in waist right on the break pt for size. Go L or XL ?

Same waist…L was too short and XL was too long. Wear a holster sometimes and needed the extra length. Without a holster the large would probably be OK. Ended up sticking with the XL and cutting/melting it. No harm and works like a champ.

Is this Core4element a Camofire “house brand”? With the frequency it comes up on CamoFire and the fact that your mailing addresses are in Suite A and B at the same address, I’m pretty sure it is. My concern is that there seem to be alot of comments about fit and quality. I,E, the boxers fall apart, the glove cuff is tight, etc. I’m all about trying new stuff but if Camofire customers are product testers for a house brand, I think the C4E gear should come with some kind of extended quality warranty from the start. I bought some of those bad boxers and threw them out long before Camofire ever came along to say we could send them back. I also wonder about the pricing. I know that on the retail brands I am getting a good deal because there is a (more or less) standard market pricing for those items and the markdown is most likely associated with those items being sold at closeout bulk pricing to Camofire and then the savings are passed on to me. Not so much with the Core4element. Since there is no retail market, I am basically paying retail at Camofire price for a prodcoct that has some known quality issues. Scares me away from the brand without an above average warranty being offered.

I don’t think they are a “store brand”, but if they were it wouldn’t be much different that KUIU, except about 30% cheaper.
I’ve got quite a bit of the Core4 gear along with a decent amount of Sitka, a set of KUIU, and pretty much all the Russell APXg2 gear, and I would put the quality right up there with KUIU and Stika, and a little above the APXg2.
I still have some of the bad boxers, but that’s the only Core4 product I’ve ever had problems with. I’m not sure if it was really a poor product or if I just wore them for an unintended use though because I use them to jog in. I’ve probably got hundreds of miles on each pair. I must have missed the note that Camofire said that we could send them back, if that’s true I might take them up on it and if it is true that is some unbelievable customer service.
First I heard anything on the gloves, but the one thing folks on this forum generally are is honest. They give some pretty good reviews of the products. I think the Core4 Element series is about the best all around hunting clothes you can buy for the money.

Hey thanks for the reply npaden. Agree about the honesty in the forums here and I appreciate it. I realize not everyone is going to be happy with everything but the negative reviews do come along on the C4E gear. I don’t have time to hunt them all up, but I see them. I’ve been watching Camofire for over 2 years now and remember when the C4E came along. What would make me happy is knowing the real warranty up-front. I’ve busted out seams on Sitka and Scentblock gear months after purchase and they always take care of me. C4E could go out of business any minute as a new company. I guess I just want to know who I’m dealing with if the gear goes south on me (will Camofire cover it if they decide to discontinue the C4E line) and would like to see them have a caveat to their standard Camofire return policy for the C4E gear since the Camofire crowd is likely 95% of the people buying it.

BTW, yes, they said they would exchange out the bad batch of boxers for the new ones because there was a design problem (or maybe stiching issue). That was a couple months ago so if you still have some and they are flawed, I’d ask about it.

I’m very happy with Core4. I use both Sitka and Core4. Core4 quality is good to go except for a couple of minor things here and there…but the same goes with Sitka. Main difference between the two…if you’re humping your gear for multi-day hunts and you need extra layers for cold weather, go with Sitka since it compresses better. If you’re not humping and trying to save a good bit of money, go with Core4. Sizing is different between the two lines so make sure you figure that out before you start dumping a lot of bucks between the two. Your comment on pricing, you pay what you pay and if you don’t like the price…buy something else.

Thanks Grunt, much appreciated comments. Regarding the pricing, I should have been clearer. I was talking about the prices relative to the markdown. If Camofire sets the MSRP on the C4E website and then turns around and sells it on Camofire for XX% less…your paying retail. If that’s the case, it’s potentially misleading because re-sale value is always a consideration when an informed purchaser is contemplating buying somehting.

No worries…IRT the pricing issue. Similar posting of comments went around this forum a couple of months ago and not worth rehashing. Bottomline…I like the gear and think it’s well worth the price when you consider other alternatives. BTW….Camofire customer service is first rate. I’ve dealt with Greg several times and he’s treated me great. Can’t get that kind of service elsewhere.

I can tell you for SURE that the prices on Camofire are not retail if you know anything (I suspect you do) about how retail prices are set. (manufacturing cost x 2 = Wholesale, Wholesale cost x 2 = Retail) The Camofire prices are really closer to if not just under or just over standard Wholesale prices.

Mr. Tampa (I can see you’re from Tampa from your IP address but if you really want to have an open discussion, you should at least use your real name or at least email address) I hope you and others feel open to speak your mind, downvotes or not. I’m happy answer your questions the best I can. We’ve said it before, Core4 was started by a couple of guys that we know (here in Utah and in Canada) when they approached us with the idea was to exclusively offer products built with Mountain Mimicry camo (which was then extinct) through Camofire. Funny thing, is that we were in talks with Kryptek EARLY on about helping them pay for and sell their first run of clothing as a pre-sale/pre-launch on Camofire to build hype so that they could launch their brand of clothing with Mimicry on it. But they went a different route (cough*cough* Cabela’s) even though they swore they’d never go big box. Anyway, if you know anything about Kuiu’s model, Core4 was really the predecessor to the sell direct to the hunter at wholesale prices but the direct part of the sale was to use Camofire since we have an existing group of customers and we continue to try and bring the best brands in hunting. The thought was as we discussed that if the product was solid we’d have no worries selling it on Camofire. From the start it didn’t make sense to set up Core4 in a warehouse cross town so we moved to a new spot (same warehouse building as we were in before but twice the size) and so Core4 set up the location as the next suite over from Camofire. So from that aspect, sure, you could call it a house brand of Camofire if you’d like. When Core4 first got off the ground we (Camofire) opted to invest in Core4. We were involved in the warehousing and some of the R&D so it made sense. As it’s grown there has been retailer demand for Core4 as well. Last I heard they have had 60+ retailers ask about buying Core4 and putting it in their shops. But it’s not the direction that Core4 is ready to go…yet. Perhaps never, perhaps soon. Either way, a retail price had to be set in order to either pave the way for a future retail program or simply for us to be able to price it accordingly. I recently worked with Core4 to lower the retail prices on their Merino and will be working to lower the prices on the rest of the items, despite the cost of goods going up a bit. The reason for that is to make it so that even at full retail, the pricing is extremely competitive against the Sitka, Kuiu, Russell (RIP), Kryptek, First Lite, etc of the hunting world since the Core4 product is often compared to those brands. And because Core4 is now selling on their site at full retail – that retail has to be competitive and accurate. As for WARRANTY, we have facilitated most of the warranty and have ALWAYS stood behind the gear we sell, regardless of the brand name. Right now the Core4 site says 30 day return. I’m pushing to have them say 1 year. The bottom line though for you and anyone else is that we’ve always backed up their gear and replaced or had it fixed if it broke/failed. In some instances we’ve shipped new replacements because we knew that a hunt was on the line and we also know that Core4 has our back if we do this. Anyway, I hope in all of this reply there is something that helps or makes sense.

Kendall, thank you for the incredibly detailed response. You’ve answered all my questions and alleviated my warranty concerns. I’m sure you are a busy guy and the time it took to lay this out is much appreciated. I know it comes off as long-winded in the forum but my concerns were the kind I’d ask any retailer. It would just happen in real-time and not seem so intrusive. Hopefully the feedback you receive here gives you some ammo to push to the C4E guys about warranty so they can see what the customer desires. I’m not trolling, I’d just rather not publish anything personal in a forum like my name or email address. Nothing is safe in cyberspace anymore. The silly name? I just see a lot of comments that can be construed as challenging anything Camofire get downvoted and hidden. Was just looking for a way to try and make sure my comment was seen. Based on your thoughtful response, I’ll order some C4E gear without fear.

Thanks, and you’re welcome. The days go by wicked fast and it’s crazy here today (phones off the hook, trying to ship every order today, etc) so I wish I were more on it to post a reply faster. But it means a lot to me that guys take the time to comment, ask questions, and even reply to others questions on here so I do my best to reply to most if not all the questions. I understand about the “nothing safe in cyber space” but I hope this little slice of camo land can be different, albeit exposed to cyber punks. When you put in your email address, we see it on the admin side, but it isn’t shown or shared anywhere else, FYI. Have an awesome hunt the next time you go out and let us know if there’s anything Camofire or Core4 can do to be better.

Here’s my $0.02 on the matter. When I first stumbled upon the line I was a little confused. Looked around this forum quite a bit and saw that the equipment went over really well, and that it had been fully backed by Camofire as far as troubleshooting goes. What you get from Camofire’s relationship with C4E is a behind the scenes connection. When big brand stuff gets returned to a store because the seam blew out, the flaw is not online for all to see. Also, when people make suggestions about the gear, Kendal takes the idea straight to the manufacturer!
As far as the pricing goes I did see the posts a few months pack. I have worked in the outdoor gear industry and retail pricing is the same as it is in most consumer goods. It is usually double the wholesale price so but the manufacturer and retailer get about an even cut. The retailer has the ability to make some wiggle room in that price to consumer if they choose, but often they don’t until they have sold the majority what they have purchased. Discount, or internet, retailers attempt to sell larger quantities at lower prices. This is usually at the sacrifice to the consumer in regards to service. This website offers a great price and great support.
Maybe calling it Manufacturer suggested retail price would ease any tensions with this, but that is a bit long winded.
Also it is a great question to ask because when someone else wonders the same thing they will stumble on this page and see the direct response from Kendall!

Hi Kendell, because you gave such an awesome reply here explaining how things run with C4e and Camofire, I know that you have an ‘in’ with C4e, meaning you can give customer suggestions etc. Here is one tiny suggestion I have that would sure be nice to be passed on to C4e…. I have bought and bought and bought EVERYTHING that Core4 makes, for both myself and my husband and I absolutely love it (including three Torrent suits in all the camo’s, like I need three?!!) All of the clothing does EVERYTHING I need it to do! My suggestion…because I am a woman and C4e does not have a women’s line, I work with the ‘small’ sizes and they work awesome for me, now the new 2012 line of pants, element and switchback are different in sizing, the older line I could get size small and now it looks like their smallest size is 32? The small fit me perfect but the 32 is huge on me. Both styles of pants that I’ve bought my husband were medium and now 32′s, they fit the same, he is happy happy! Me, well just wondering why there isn’t a 30? I might be wrong here, but whenever the core4 stuff comes on, the small seem to sell quickly, no? Like I said, I might be wrong, maybe you just didn’t have as much ‘small’ in stock so it looked like it went faster? Either way, again, with sooooo many women hunters out there, ideally it would be nice to see a women’s line but if not, can we not get smaller sizes? I am soooooo NOT done buying!! Thx Camofire for all the awesome deals I have to date!!

Here’s a little secret, when you “pull the trigger” you don’t immediately buy it. I routinely “pull the trigger” on an item just to see what the extra item is. All you do when you pull the trigger is place that item in your shopping cart. Once you get it in your shopping cart you can check out that extra item there.

LOL – makes me laugh cause I remember that happening and we were like “if there’s a loop hole, these guys will find it!” One loophole that we haven’t fixed cause it’s not really a big deal is if you put something in the cart and it doesn’t completely sell out, but expires and moves on to the next item, you can still purchase it as long as it’s in your cart still. Before combined shipping, this was something a lot of guys tried to do (successfully).
