EXTRA ITEM – Core4Element Cold Gear Bibs

Description:
“It’s too cold,” three words never to be heard again when wearing the Core4Element Cold Gear Jacket. Insulated with PrimaLoft Sport, this jacket offers high performance comfort and superior warmth even on the coldest days. A laminated interior and taped seams work with PrimaLoft to create a jacket that is not only water and windproof, but remains extremely compressible for its bulk. The Cold Gear Jacket is equipped with features to keep you protected from the elements like two fleece lined handwarmer pockets and one fleece lined chest pocket that help fight off the frigid temperatures when a hunter’s hands are reaching for items stowed inside.
A full insulated hood with 3 elastic cinch points offers a custom fit when a hood is needed and a low profile bill keeps snow flakes away from a chilled face. Velcro cuffs that are lined with an interior cuff allow for maximum comfort and protection from freezing winds. 12 inch pit zips offer added breathability while moving or when the temperature rises. For added protection while sitting, the Cold Gear Jacket offers an elastic hem that can be cinched tight, creating a barrier no air can penetrate. Two interior pockets allow safe keeping of phones, flashlights, or other miscellaneous items. A fleece lined chin guard offers maximum comfort and feels great when against a cold face.
The perfect jacket for hunting in cold weather, the Core4Element Cold Gear Jacket will have your back, front and everywhere in between and will keep you comfortable in even the harshest conditions.

Hey Kendall, looks like another great product. Is the fit similar to the core4 element jacket? The large c4element jacket fits me well but sizing for this looks a little different. Any thoughts on sizing? Thanks

Tim, I am currently wearing this jacket (yea, up late, cold office, super warm jacket) as I wanted to double check the sizing and it’s fitting very true to my size. I’m an XL tee shirt, XL on most every jacket I own and the XL fits perfect. (6’4″, 205). When compared to the Element Jacket (of which I wear XL) it’s very similar in sizing.
Oh yea, sleeve length is perfect for me – perhaps a first in insulated jackets like this. I wore the Russell Whiteout and the XL was HUGE in the body but short in the arms.
As for thickness/insulation, the thickness is similar to the Sitka Incinerator (down) and the Fanatic (Primaloft). The bibs which are the extra item are thinner than the jacket, apparently by design given that the legs are usually more warm than the torso.

Thanks for the quick thorough response. All the features ( mm camo, primaloft, pit zips, hood and waterproof) is what I’ve been looking for…I’m going to love this jacket!

How about the circumference of the sleeves of this jacket?
I have the light weight jacket (assault??) in XL and the sleeve length is fine, but the sleeves are too tight around the forearms and wrists. So tight that it is a pain to get my hands back through when taking the jacket off, and you can forget layering anything underneath.
Thanks

Dreabon – I don’t know the actual circumference, but it’s more of a normal fit rather than an archery slim fit on the forearms. The other Core4 Jacket is the Element. This jacket will not feel anything like the element on the arm circumference.

Hey Kendall what do you like better the whiteout or this one. how do they compare. I love my whiteout (got here) when i need it, it is such a warm jacket. which is warmer?

Kase – The Whiteout is super warm. Aside from a Canada trip two seasons ago I wore it winter camping last year when it was -5 or so and it was super cozy. My guess is that this jacket is similar so if you’re happy with the Whiteout, stick with it and save yourself the $$ of an upgrade/swap. The fleece lined pockets and pit zips in the Core4 Cold Weather jacket are two nice features.

Burkhardt…..you obvisiously have never used any Core4 gear, core4 is defintly good stuff. “winter camo”? core4 only comes in 3 camos, kendall correct me if im wrong, winter camo is defintly not one of them.
“Some guy”? that some guy is kendall, the best source of info Ive come across…he is a straight shooter and someone I call a friend….If Kendall says its a good jacket then its a good jackett…. You have to remember, some guys online earn peoples respect and Kendall’s one of them….
Leave the attitude off this site, no one wants it around here….

I can see where you’re coming from David, but I think you’ve jump to a conclusion about my comment. I’ve seen/worn this jacket a couple times in the the weeks that we’ve had them in the warehouse and considering that this is a new jacket/bib from Core4 I simply tried it on. You called it “testing”, I called it wearing it here in the office to double check the sizing/fit. If that’s my kind of testing, then before I headed to Canada a couple months ago for a week of hunting my Sitka Incinerator jacket was also pretty dang warm inside the office too…and it was super warm in the field. I drew a comparison in thickness and assumption of warmth.
Like you I can put a jacket on in a store and get a good sense or at least assume how it may or may not perform/feel in the elements, particularly based on other jackets I’ve worn in the past. Right? And I agree, you’ve got to get out and really use something to know for sure. Wish I had the time and means to test every item we get in but I don’t so I and others here do the best we can to judge based on our experiences how something may or may not work and then describe it for you and others to make the best decision possible.
I asked and was told this jacket was intended primarily for cold treestand hunting with/without snow. Why isn’t it in snow camo? I don’t know. Why isn’t the Russell Whiteout in snow camo or the Sitka Fanatic/Incinerator in snow camo? This was a very small run of this jacket that Core4 did as a test for next year. Perhaps they will make it in snow camo – I’ll pass along that feedback.
My bet to you is that this jacket would perform stellar there in AK for anything from snowmobiling Thompson Pass to cold wet hunting on Kodiak.

What is the sleeve length on the jacket? I have the Pivot shirt and an XL is good. Have a 36″ arm length. Do the bibs come in Tall?

Kendall, is this a new product from Core4Element? I don’t see it on their website. Do you have any further description of the bibs? This may be the missing piece of clothing that C4E needs to compare to the APXg2 Series. Thanks!

Chris – yes, this is a new item but they haven’t put it on the C4E website yet because it’s a pre-run and they said they’ve been too busy lining up next year’s gear production. I’ll nudge them to update it asap. The bibs description? I’ll post it onto the forum description above.

Hey Kendall, do you know if Core4 has any plans on any light rain gear. I’ve been looking for a good waterproof jacket with pit zips and I would love for it to be made by Core4. The cold weather jacket looks nice but it’s rare it gets cold enough in MS to be able to wear a great deal. Heck we’re still waiting on winter here.
Kendall thanks for the input you give on your products. It’s one of the reasons I continue to be such a loyal customer of Camofire.

Parker – I just saw the first prototype of rain gear yesterday. Seam sealed, taped, fully waterproof, slightly brushed exterior to increase quiet (despite that it will hold a bit of water in the brushed material as it gets wet – definitely a down to getting it quiet, but otherwise think ski jacket noise). It didn’t have pit zips so I suggested it, but they did have big hand pockets positioned higher to avoid being pinned down by a pack waist belt. The pockets are mesh lined so they double as vents. Fabric is 10K/10K waterproof/breathable if that means something to you.
The pants are equally good. Told them to increase inseam to 33.5 vs the standard 32 length. 3/4 zip on side seam – two way waterproof zipper so you can side vent down from the top of the zipper. Two hand pockets with waterproof zippers, fly zipper, belt loops, just under a pound (each). Both items stuff into one of their pockets.

Sounds like what I’m looking for Kendall, definately has to have the pit zips though. Any idea if this would be out by August of this year?

Parker – Yes, word is they will be out by Aug. Oh yea, camo pattern is MM and perhaps a second camo pattern. I don’t have confirmation yet.

Kendall, is the camo pattern still the same as all the other core4….mountain mimicry? The picture makes me think otherwise, as the jacket looks darker in color. Also can I add a 1/4 zip merino top at the same time? Thanks in advance.

Jeff – it is the same MM, but when I compare it to the Element pant it’s just a bit more tan in it vs. grey. Must be how the laminate material accepts the camo print. But it is the same pattern. If you’ve not placed an order, give Greg a call and he’ll combine the two items into an order.

Kendall just wanted to see if you would pass on a request to the core4 guys, maybe next year they would consider making their element and these cold gear pieces in
a darker pattern like the Realtree AP. I like the MM but I really love the AP for us
guys east of the big muddy. Thanks for your honesty, we really appreciate it.

Dan – I don’t know the exact fabric/laminate other than it’s described to me as waterproof taped seams and breathable to vapor. I think it is a 2 layer laminate. The Kuiu blog has a great read about laminated materials – http://blog.kuiu.com/2012/01/30/waterproof-breathables/

Mike – I don’t. I’m not familiar with the Arctic Shield gear.

Mike – all of my Core4 Gear is far superior to my Arctic Shield for water resistance, wind proof, and durability for long term wear. I don’t expect this run to be any different. I had the Arctic Shield parka and bibs, the bibs only lasted one season, and the jacket liner came unseamed as well.

Kendall,
How quiet is this jacket? I have a hard time with late season gear because it is usually noisy especially when it is waterproofed. Maybe you could compare it to the Sitka Traverse for a noise comparison. I know the traverse is not waterproof but it is a jacket that many on here are probably familiar with. Also since this is trial run di you think there will be more offered in the future? I am short on funds right now but would definately like to pick some up in the future. Thanks, Scott

Scott – good topic. I think you may have meant to say 90% jacket vs. the Traverse shirt? The 90% is surely more quiet as it’s a softshell and the C4E cold gear jacket is a brushed faced laminate jacket. It’s more noisy than the 90% but not nearly as noisy as the Stormfront which is akin to a ski jacket/goretex shell.
I asked myself is it quiet enough for me to hunt from a treestand for whitetail? I would say yes with a 90% confidence level.
Does that help at all?

Kendall that helps. I feel pretty stupid though as I meant the Stratus jacket. I have that and it is just quiet enough but not warm enough for the late season tree stand hunting I do in December. I am very anal about my clothing fitting properly and being quiet and i have bought 10 + coats looking for the right one and I am still looking for the perfect coat for me.

The Stratus jacket is an awesome jacket. Yes, it’s on par with that one for quietness, and more insulation than the Stratus. Quiet plus complete waterproof is a tough combo. Not sure if the Core4 Cold Gear Jacket will stand up to your stringent requirements. That’s what’s so awesome about hunting – we all have our own level of “must have” when it comes to gear in order to give us the best shot (in our own minds) at the harvest.

Kendall – These look great. Love bibs and will be watching for this deal to come up again at a later date when I have more details about them. Thinking I would need a size bigger if I want to layer over Element pants or are they sized to be layered.
C4E stuff is great. Glad to hear you are asking them to increase the inseam. Would like to see some Tall sizes offered here.
Not a big fan of hoods on my hunting jackets. Tend to wear my own head gear and the hood just gets hooked on things. Is the hood stowable or does it detach?
Any chance C4E will come out with a pouch winter jacked like the Fanatic. Having the hand pouch is a great idea – maybe with a zipper pocket to hold a hand warmer or two as well.
