Regular Retail Price: $89.99
Camofire Price: $39.99 – 56% OFF
Description:
Merino wool is fast becoming the standard for a lightweight high performance base layer and the Core 4 Element merino zip T base layer shirt sets the standard for soft, warm and comfortable at a price that agrees with your wallet. No longer does a thermo-regulating base layer need to be super thick and bulky.
Using 100% New Zealand Merino wool in the 190 gram weight (lightweight) it’s still surprisingly durable. From sitting in a cold Wisconsin tree-stand to moving quickly along a Montana ridgeline in pursuit of a trophy elk, the natural wicking properties of the merino will keep you warm and dry. Plus the added length of the shirt will not come untucked throughout your hunt as you bend, climb, stretch and crawl to get that perfect shot. Thumb loops on the sleeves and a generous 9″ zipper for cooling off add to the features.
Built in conjunction with and tested by the Camofire.com crew, this base layer has been through the wringer from spot and stalk hunts, cold spring trail runs, summer scouting trips and winter tree stand hunts from Canada to Illinois. Inside and out it stands up and performs as any gear should.

does anyone have a comparison of the Core 4 zip T with the Sitka core zip T?

The Core 4 is made of merino wool and the Sitka is from Polartec synthetic fabric. As far as weight, they are very similar but the merino will smell less over time and I think has better thermal properties. The Sitka Core Zip is in camo – a big bonus. I own both and for my first base layer when camo doesn’t matter the merino wins every time, but I’ve been very happy with the feel and function of the Core Zip, just have to wash it more often as the synthetic material traps bacteria that will produce smell.

I have this Core 4 Element shirt and two pairs of the boxes and I love them. They really are great base layers.

I have both the Core 4 and the Sikta. Both are excellent and I like wearing either one of them. If I could own just one, it would be the Core 4. I have not worn either one enough to have experienced any wear or to say that one performances better than the other.
Kendall, do have have any plans to get the Core 4 bottoms?

Thanks Steve and Goyt for the feedback.
Goyt – I’m currently testing the bottoms and gave my feedback to the Core4 development guys. They’re making some changes and anticipate late spring or into the summer before they’ll have the bottoms. I’ve also heard rumor of a camo pattern or perhaps two on the Core 4 merino. Any guesses which camo? Any requests?

It would be awesome if they made this shirt in Realtree Max1 or Mossy Oak brush! That would give us the option of wearing this as a standalone during the warm part of the day and then layering back up when it cools down in the evening. Realtree AP or predator would be nice too.

For the bottoms I would prefer black. I never wear them by themself and I do wear bottoms a lot in the winter because I am so much more comfortable. I prefer not to be changing at the gymn wearing camo underwear. My wife wears them too and she will not wear camo. She asks me why some of my bottoms are camo and I assure her that I do not go running around the mountains in just my underwear. My only explaination for why they are camo is that is what is on-sale.

For some of us who do a majority of our hunting out of a tree I would like to see the MO Treestand pattern, ASAT or Predator Deception. This would just be for the tops. As stated before, I don’t run around in the woods in just my base layer bottoms. Just my two cents.

For all you guys too cool to “run around the woods in your base layer bottoms”… You have no idea what you are missing.

I don’t have a preference on which camo pattern, but “a” camo pattern would be preffered rather than black. My wife knows not to wash anything camo in her fruity laundry detergents….so she leaves those to me to wash (aka somewhat scent free).
my 2 cents.

Ouch. $11 to start a combined order on the scent spray makes it about $11/ bottle.

Uggg, shipping is such a beeyotch. It’s UPS and they just did a rate increase. We’re going to arm wrestle with our UPS rep on Friday and whomever wins gets their wish. Our wish is anywhere in the country under $9 UPS ground. Wendy has her hands full between Mark and myself.
Clovis – check it again by shipping to a business address if you can. I’d like to know if that changes it.

Sorry Kendall. I didn’t get a chance to get back on. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a business shipping option on the calculator. I’m looking now pretending to buy the Terramar and it does not give me a business addy option.

Errata:
As a general rule anything can be improved by adding a camo pattern. As a resident of the Pacific Northwet anything waterproof and dark green camo goes directly on to my combined order. I ship everything to my work because the rates are lower and the wife does not see Brown Santa on the front porch every time I pull the trigger.

So when they knife says that it has a “proven Bowie style blade” does that mean that botht the belly and the top part of the blade are cutting edges? That’s what a Bowie knife is right?

Peter – I think it was only the one sided cutting with the bigger belly. The bowie knives I’ve seen are just one side cutting. I could be wrong though. Any knife experts out there?

Hey, found a great website on the history of the Bowie knife. Apparently they can be sharpened so that they cut both ways, but that is not always the case. If your interested the website is: http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/lnb01

Please tell me Camofire isn’t selling out and going mainstream! Ahhhhhhh. This sounds like the backcountry.com/steepancheap model. This could be the beginning of the end! Everyone buy gold for sure.

Censored M – here’s the deal – there are a lot of brands that won’t give us a shot at their deals unless we offer their current top line product as well. Case in point – ever seen any Under Armour, Browning, Danner, etc on here? We’ll be as competitive as anyone out there, stocking only the best brands in hunting. If it’s a current model item that you’ll have to buy at retail, we hope you’ll buy from us given it’ll be the same top quality shipping/customer experience, etc.

Promise me you’ll never raise the smoking Camofire prices to float the retail shop and then we can hug it out.
